Within this project I will be staying true to the 39 historic counties of England. These county boundaries were in common use from medieval times until the mid 1970s when 'administrative countries' became widely used to represent local councils administrative areas. If you're looking to see if we've visited a particular village and you can't see it listed on the list of settlements, it may now be in a different county to what you expect!

Holy Trinity Church, Haddenham
Grade I listed. Originally dating from the 13th century, it was restored substantially in 1876, and much of the exterior decoration is Victorian.
It appears very squat comparison to the length, and this is because it originally had a further section and spire. These became unsafe and were demolished, ready for restoration. Unfortunately, according to local legend, the funds raised for the rebuild of the spire were stolen. The thief fled to the Americas, and the spire and top section were never rebuilt.
Another legend states that the bells are mismatched. One was said to have been made partially with pewter, allegedly from melted plates and mugs from local pubs!
